Lukovë a charming village on the Albanian Riviera, known for its stunning beaches and picturesque landscapes. It offers a more tranquil and less crowded atmosphere compared to some other tourist destinations on Albania’s Ionian coast.
The village extends on both sides of the SH8 road from Vlorë to Sarandë and offers fantastic views of the coast and the surrounding rugged mountains.
Out of several churches, the one dedicated to St. Paraskeva (Kisha e Shën Premtes) in the lower section of the village stands out. The structure from the 17th century was in ruins until a couple of years ago when it was thoroughly restored. Today, it belongs to the most beautiful churches on the Albanian Riviera. About 100 metres from the church, there is a small waterfall (Ujëvara e Lukovës).
There are three beaches in the vicinity of Lukovë accessible by car when you turn off the SH8 coastal highway. The one-kilometre-long Bunec Beach (Plazhi i Bunecit) is the busiest. In the northern part has a parking, pier, campsite and several guesthouses, bars and restaurants.
South of Bunec Beach, there is a small beach with one of the most romantic campsites on Albanian Riviera: The Gate to Horizon. Tent pitches are located almost on the beach, scattered under olive trees and other greenery that provide cool shade in summer. The facilities are very simple, with no electricity. The access road from Lukovë is not suitable for campers or larger vehicles.
The southernmost of the three beaches in the vicinity of Lukovë is named after the village itself, i.e. Lukova Beach (Plazhi i Lukovës). It is quite popular among campers since there are no guesthouses or campsites offering accommodation, but you can eat at some of the several good fish restaurants. There is a good, asphalt road connecting the beach with Lukovë.
TIP: Take a scenic hike along the coast from Lukova Beach to Krorëz Beach, which is one of the most stunning in Albania and cannot be reached other than on foot or by boat. It’s six kilometres in one direction (see map). You can also book a trip on SUP or kayak from Lukova to Krorëz
