Dhërmi se one of the most charming villages on the Albanian Riviera. Perched on a steep slope below the Llogara Pass, it overlooks several beaches on the shores of the Ionian Sea, which have been the scene of rapid development in recent years. Several of the beaches could well hold the title of “the most beautiful on the Riviera”. Gjipe Beach and its canyon should not be left off your itinerary, a boat trip to the remote Grama Bay is also an unforgettable experience. The most visited beach here is the one in Dhërmi.
Grama Beach
Due to its amazing location between the cliffs, the Grama Beach ranks among the most beautiful on the Ionian coast. Unless you are a hardy walker, you can only reach it by boat from Dhërmi, Himara or Vlorë). The best view of the bay is when you climb up one of the side rocks. In season, there is a small restaurant here.

Palasa Beach
The about two-kilometre-long pebbly beach north of Dhërmi is divided by a delta of a stream that dries up most of the year. You’ll have it directly below you when viewed from the Llogara Pass. From there, if you’re an adrenaline enthusiast, you can take a paraglide right down to the beach. Large tourist resorts have been built both in the northern and southern parts of the beach. The Palasa Beach is also important in terms of history, as Julius Caesar landed here in 48 BC while pursuing the armies of his rival Pompey.
Drymades Beach
Another of the beaches, located below Llogara Pass. Like the neighbouring beaches of Dhërmi and Palasa, it is made up of fine pebbles. It’s easy to get to by car, and you can park pretty much right next to the water. There’s plenty of beach infrastructure and a range of accommodation options along this two-kilometre stretch of coastline, whether in campsite or smaller guesthouses.
Dhërmi Beach
Dhërmi Beach is one of the most visited beaches on the Albanian Riviera, known also for its summer beach festivals. In recent years, there has been a building boom. You’ll find plenty of hotels, bars and good fish restaurants. In summer it can get pretty crowded, but you’ll find a quieter spot at the southern end, bypassing the smaller rocks.
Gjipe Beach
The fantastic Gjipe Beach is among the most amazing locations in Albania. Clear waters of the Ionian Sea, a clean pebble beach and next to it an impressive canyon with an olive grove. That’s how you can imagine paradise. You can’t get here by car, leave it in the car park about two kilometres away. There are several bars, and fast-food stalls next to the beach, in addition to a campsite that provides basic accommodation. Climbing enthusiasts will find here the best rock terrain in Albania.
