The Albanian Riviera has plenty of stunning beaches, but the ones in Ksamil are really something special. With crystal-clear turquoise water, they are among the most beautiful not only in Albania but also in the Ionian Sea. The downside to all this is the crowds: Ksamil has become a bustling resort recently, packed with tourists in high season. Come here in June or September to avoid battling for a spot beneath an umbrella.
Monastery Beach
Albanians call it Plazhi and Manastirit, and it was named after the nearby St. George Monastery. It is located in a beautiful spot at the end of a deep bay, with a steep driveway leading to it. With small bars and restaurants nearby, you can comfortably spend the whole day here. The beach is also popular with snorkels and divers. The beach is now inaccessible due to a big development project.
Mirror Beach
Mirror Beach, or Plazhi i Pasqyrave, as its Albanian name is, is one of the beaches locals love to visit. You can enjoy a perfect Mediterranean meal in the grill restaurant, jump into the water from the adjacent rocks, and snorkelling is also perfect here. The beach is difficult to get to by car – there is a bad gravel road that is unfit for larger vehicles. The southern part of the beach is accessible only on foot, separated from the other part by a rock that juts out a few metres into the sea.
Seagull Beach
Seagull Beach (Plazhi i Pulëbardhës) is one of the most popular beach in Ksamil area. Yet the place, surrounded by cliffs and steep slopes, has a rather intimate feel. You’ll find a nice restaurant here, where you can enjoy delicious seafood. Hurry up in the morning, you’ll hardly find a free umbrella after 9:00.

Ksamil Beaches
With turquoise crystal clear water, sandy shores and beautiful views, the Ksamil Beaches are one of the most beautiful in Albania. Several overlapping beaches can be found on sections of the small Ksamil Peninsula, which juts out into the sea, just opposite the four Ksamil Islands. You can enjoy water activities such as snorkelling, water skiing or sea kayaking. The advantage is the perfect beach infrastructure and dozens of hotels, restaurants, bars or clubs. All of the positives have their downside – the crowds that the popularity of Ksamil attracts, literally like a magnet. In high season, you’ll be lucky if you can still find an umbrella in the late morning.
Twin Island
One of the most remarkable places on the Albanian Riviera is the Twin Island (Ishujt Binjakë), two small islands opposite the resort of Ksamil. They are connected by a pebbly isthmus, which can barely fit a couple of sunbeds. Water taxis run from the main beach in Ksamil, but the islands are also accessible by pedal boat or any other vessel. It’s just over half a kilometre. In high season, the island is packed with people and if you arrive later in the morning, you’ll probably won’t find a sunbed anymore.
Paradise Beach
Paradise Beach (Plazhi i Parajsës) is located on the southern edge of Ksamil. It’s a bit quieter than the beaches in the centre of the resort, but it tends to be crowded too. The advantage is that, like perhaps the only beach in Ksamil, you can bring your own umbrella. Because of the flatter bottom, calm sea (it’s in a cove) and fine sand, it’s good for children. Lori, the neighbouring beach, has similar characteristics.
Dry Tree Beach
Beach with the poetic name Dry Tree (Pema e Thatë) is practically the southernmost beach in Albania, situated in the opposite the Greek island of Corfu. It can be found at the end of a (passable) dirt road about five kilometres from Ksamil. Most of the rugged coastline here is lined with a promenade dotted with sunbeds and parasols. There are also several bars and restaurants. Prices here are slightly lower than in Ksamil itself, and there are also fewer people.
Laguna Beach
Laguna Beach offers refuge to those seeking shelter from the crowds in Ksamil. Finding the correct access road is a little tricky – take the gravel road towards Dry Tree Beach and turn left before the resort of Arameras. There is a car park a short distance from the beach. The beach is located on a 500-metre-long spit at the mouth of the Vivar Channel, a stone’s throw from Ali Pasha of Tepelenë Fortress near Butrint. The owners have brought in white sand, and the only restaurant in the area serves good, inexpensive food.
