Ksamil is a popular, fast-growing and bustling resort on the Albanian Riviera. Often referred to as the “Maldives of Europe”, it captivates visitors with its turquoise waters, sandy beaches, and rich cultural heritage. A short drive from Ksamil leads to Butrint National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
One of Ksamil’s main draws is its stunning beaches, each possessing a unique charm, and also the archipelago (Ishujt e Ksamilit) just off the coast. Four islands in total are accessible by boat, paddleboard, kayak or even by swimming for the more adventurous. Particularly beautiful are the so-called Twin Islands (Ishujt Binjak), connected by a narrow sandy isthmus. The crystal-clear waters surrounding the islands provide an ideal environment for snorkelling and swimming, offering a glimpse into the rich underwater world of the Ionian Sea.
Ksamil Beach, as well as Paradise Beach and Bora Bora Beach, are among the most photogenic sports on the Albanian coast. The beaches north of Ksamil, Mirror Beach and Seagull Beach, are equally stunning. For a more detailed guide to the beaches around Ksamil, click here.
Ksamil was a peaceful coastal village that was at the top of all guidebooks in the category of “hidden gems” until a few years ago. This is no longer true. In high season, the beaches tend to be overcrowded.
The resort is easily accessible from Sarandë, the nearest major city. Buses run roughly every hour to Ksamil, with Butrint being the final stop (see timetable). The bus stop in Sarandë can be found at the intersection of Rruga Mithat Hoxha and Rruga Jonianët, a short walk from the port.
International visitors can reach Corfu International Airport and take a ferry to Sarandë before heading to Ksamil. The ferry is provided by Finikas Lines and Ionian Seaways, both running at least six sailings a day in high season, with at least daily sailing in low season.
