Shëngjin (Saint John) is a dynamic resort town on the Adriatic Sea just a few kilometres from Lezhë. The long sandy beaches attract sun-seekers and water enthusiasts, while the lively waterfront promenade bustles with local shops, cafes, and seafood restaurants. Don’t miss the extraordinary natural phenomenon of Rana e Hedhun beach, where the sand dunes plunge sharply into the sea.
During the summer, its lengthy sandy beaches north and south of the town are frequently overflowing with people. Because of the harbour’s traffic, the water is frequently murky. But the water gets cleaner and you’ll encounter fewer people the farther you get from the centre.
Shëngjin can easily be reached by public minibuses from Lezhë (8 km). If you want to stay longer, you’ll find accommodation in all price ranges.
Rana e Hedhun beach, one of the most stunning in the Albanian Adriatic Sea, is located around three kilometres north of Shëngjin. The formation of the sand dune on the steep coastal slope is the result of wind action. The sandy beach’s top edge is surrounded by pine trees and provides a stunning view of the surrounding hills and the sea. It’s definitely well worth the climb. There is a small asphalt road that takes you almost to the beach. There are numerous eateries, pubs, and residences nearby. The beach is accessible from Baks-Rrjoll, a settlement close to Velipojë, on the west side.
