Himarë is one of the best destinations for beach lovers in Albania. Situated in the centre of the Albanian Riviera near some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, the town is an ideal destination for a relaxing vacation by the sea. There’s plenty to choose from for lovers of city life (the beach at Himarë), high-end resorts (Jalë), dance parties (Llaman), romanticism (Filikuri and Aquarium) or family vacation (Livadh).
Jala Beach
The charming half-moon beach has clear water that, thanks to the sea currents, is said to be the cleanest in the entire Albanian Riviera. It is also ideal for snorkelling and diving. The resort of Jalë is also popular for its exuberant nightlife. Currently, Albania’s rich are concentrated here, with luxury villas sprouting up in the bay and expensive yachts docked here.
Aquarium Beach
A hidden gem among the beaches of the Albanian Riviera. It is located in a small cove about halfway between Jalë and Livadh beach in Himarë and is only a few dozen metres long. The surrounding cliffs are perfect for jumping from. It can only be reached on foot, by off-road vehicle or by boat, it is 1.5 kilometres far from both Jalë and Livadh.
Livadh Beach
A popular beach about two kilometres from Himarë, where new hotels and campsites have sprung up in recent years. It’s not crowded even in high season and is popular with families with children. It is also a hub for a range of beach sports, such as jet skiing, sea kayaking, and beach volleyball.
Himara Beach
The half-kilometer-long beach in Himarë, sometimes called Spile, is flanked by a pleasant urban promenade. One of its best features is the abundance of tavernas, cafes, clubs, and stores. One of southern Albania’s most popular beaches.
Potam Beach
Potam Beach is connected to the town beach in Himarë, stretching for one kilometre south of the centre. It is a little quieter, but there are plenty of services and beach infrastructure. The bottom drops very quickly, so the water tends to be colder than elsewhere on the Albanian Riviera.
Filikuri Beach
Filikuri is another hidden gem among beaches near Himarë. It can only be reached by boat or on foot from Potam in Himarë along a steep path, that at the end has a rope for holding on. But the complicated access is worth it, as this is one of the most beautiful beaches in Albania. The sea here is the coldest around Himarë due to underwater springs. It occurs that after a while of swimming in warm water, you find yourself in a chilly current.
Llaman Beach
It is linked from the West with the Borsh Beach, which is the longest on the Albanian Riviera. It is characterised by a newly built promenade and a series of concrete bunkers painted in bright colours. However, there’s almost no beach infrastructure, with only parts of the beach having umbrellas. Don’t miss a visit to the historic village of Qeparo or the miniature Rooster Cove (Gjiri i Këndesave) on the outskirts of Qeparo.
Borsh Beach
At seven kilometres, it is the longest beach on the Albanian Riviera. If you’re looking for the perfect place to spend a peaceful holiday, the beach at Borsh is a great choice. You can still find spots for free RV parking here. There are also some guesthouses or campsites by the beach. Take time to visit the medieval castle of Borsh or the picturesque village of Qeparo.
