The huge white Cross of Morava (Kryqi i Moravës) is a beautiful landmark situated on a hill above Korçë, offering breathtaking views of the city. Nearby, you’ll find also the charming church of St. Elias.
The Cross erected on the top of Maja e Shëndellisë Mountain (1365 m) is visible from almost everywhere in the area of Korçë. Along with the adjacent Church of the Prophet Elijah (Kisha e Profetit Ilias) serves as a symbol of Orthodox Christianity, which is predominant in this part of southeastern Albania.
The Cross is a popular tourist spot for the locals and also an excellent starting point for hikes in the Bredhi i Drenovës protected landscape, famous for its lovely meadows and rock formations.
The place can easily be reached by car or taxi (6 km). From the parking, it is just a few minutes walk.
TIP: On the way to the Cross it is worth visiting the Memorial to the Fallen Partisans (Varrezat e Dëshmorëve), a impressive staircase in the eastern suburb of Korçë, dominated by a statue of an anti-fascist fighter with a raised hand clenched in a fist.
