There’s no better place to learn about Albanian beer than Korçë. Established in 1928, the Korçë’s brewery (Birra Korça) has the longest tradition in the country. Make sure you drink at least one in the brewery’s beer garden.
The distinctive taste and quality of Birra Korça have made it a symbol of national pride for many Albanians. It is often associated with social gatherings and celebrations such as the Beer Festival that takes place in the Old Bazaar in Korçë every August.
The brewery is located on the eastern outskirts of Korçë, at the foot of the Morava Mountain. The freshly tapped beer in the restaurant with the beer garden in the brewery is outstanding and incredibly cheap to boot (70 lekë).
TIP: After seeing the brewery, if you’re still feeling strong, head further 1.5 kilometres to the village of Mborjë. Here, the modest-looking Church of the Resurrection of Christ (Kisha e Ristozit) is a popular destination, particularly for its murals and icons. Constructed in 1389, it stands as one of Albania’s finest examples of Byzantine art.
